A Legacy of Sweetness

Over Five Decades of
Community Spirit

It all started in 1965 in the living room of local school teacher Doug Rose. Representatives from various community groups gathered with a simple but wonderful idea: to celebrate the spring maple harvest while raising money for local causes. The very first Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival was held on April 9, 1966, yielding a modest profit that was proudly shared among the contributing groups.

Though the festival faced a crossroads in 1968, a passionate group of locals refused to let the sweetness fade. They banded together to form the Elmvale and District Maple Syrup Committee, ensuring this homegrown tradition would thrive for generations to come.

Over the decades, the festival blossomed by leaps and bounds, fueled by the tireless dedication of local leaders, countless volunteers, and cherished community traditions. Along the way, we welcomed our mysterious mascot, "Miss Amber Maple," started kicking off the weekend with a vibrant high school variety show, and established the guaranteed sell-out firefighter's dance to wrap up the festivities. What began with a small pancake breakfast and a handful of vendors on Queen Street quickly grew into a beloved annual homecoming for thousands.

Today, our little community event has transformed into a spectacular, fun-filled weekend that draws 30,000 to 40,000 visitors annually! We now proudly host over 200 vendor booths, feed thousands of hungry guests at our pancake house, and offer everything from sugarbush tours to hilarious log-sawing contests. Most importantly, our core mission remains exactly the same as it was in 1965: giving back.

Thanks to the unwavering support of our visitors and volunteers, we are now able to allocate over $20,000 annually to the grassroots groups and organizations that make Elmvale such a wonderful place to call home.

Our Mission

The Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival is a fundraising event whose proceeds support projects which contribute to the physical, intellectual, cultural, emotional or spiritual well-being of our community

Our Impact

Because our festival is 100% volunteer-run, the proceeds from a single, joy-filled Saturday translate directly into tangible support for our hometown. Each year, we proudly allocate over $20,000 to more than twenty local groups. Every pancake flipped, sugarbush tour taken, and bottle of syrup purchased helps fund essential community needs—from local schools and youth programs to vital upgrades for our library, arena, and community hall.

A Message from Greg Davidson

Welcome to the 58th Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival. We run on the sweetness of our main offering, but also on the gift of people’s time. It has been my pleasure to get to know our volunteers better over the past year. Each one brings experience, new ideas, a love of community, and energy to an environment of teamwork and laughter.

Our festival kicks off the spring season. For our elders, it brings a sense of continuity and vitality. For family and friends, a whole lot of fun. For young people, it forms part of their identity.

The festival provides lots to enjoy and discover. Visit the Town Hall for an all-day pancake breakfast. Gather at the main stage for music and the annual log-sawing and pancake-eating contests. Enjoy lunch and snacks with our Lionesses in the Springwater Room above the rink. Explore our village and browse all that our exhibitors have to offer. Catch the school bus, east of the arena, for a tour of Lalonde’s Sugarbush.

This digest is your guide to the festival. Ask our volunteers in the Sugar Shack and throughout the grounds for more information, and check out our Facebook page. We hope you have a wonderful time and come back next year.

The Heart of Our Festival

Our Festival Committee

The Elmvale Maple Syrup Festival Committee is thrilled to welcome you to our 58th festival. There were some changes made in the past years that some have found hard to adjust to at first, but which appear to have been a huge success.

We hope you will find something for all the family to enjoy, starting with our pancake house, where you can fuel up for the day ahead and tap your feet to the music. Be sure to pick up a festival guide, which will show you everything we have to offer. Our committee members and volunteers are easily identifiable in our orange vests, so feel free to approach us with your questions.
